Which building is best for me?

My biggest priority is the quality of care and the services that will be available to me. How can I be assured that I will receive the care that I need?

Shepherd Lodge, our long-term care home, is accredited by the Canadian College of Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA). Shepherd Terrace, our retirement and assisted living home is accredited by the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA). We take great pride in maintaining such high service standards.

We offer a range of other services that are available to all our residents: on-site pharmacy and convenience store on-site restaurant and café with catering for special functions; on-site Wellness Centre with access to physicians, physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropodist, dental care, optician, hearing care and nutritionist; on-site inter-denominational church; recreation programs designed to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of each resident; and much more. 

FInally, we ensure the safety and security of our residents by having reception/licensed security staff that are available 24 hours a day. We also have closed circuit TV and security foot patrol during the evening and overnight.

My family does not live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Can they stay with me when they visit?

We have two guest suites for residents' visitors. We also offer guest meals and our on-site services to visitors. 

What is the process for handling complaints?

We encourage you to talk directly with the Manager. If the issue has not been resolved to your satisfaction, you may contact the Vice-President in charge of the department and then the CEO.

Must I be Pentecostal to live at Shepherd Village?

Shepherd Village respects all faiths and encourages the expression of residents' spirituality. We have an inter-denominational, Christian Church where everyone is welcome to worship. We offer a Christian lifestyle and spiritual programming for those who are interested.

Which accommodation is subsidized and how do I go about applying for a subsidy?

Shepherd Lodge long-term care is a government subsidized home. We can assist you in ensuring that you obtain the maximum government assistance in order to minimize your financial obligation. Please contact our Finance Manager at 416-609-5700, extension 343 for further information.

Our Foundation subsidizes only the bachelor apartments at Shepherd Manor. The decision to subsidize is based on the income and the wealth of the individual.

There are no subsidies for Shepherd Terrace or Shepherd Gardens.

Once I live at Shepherd Village, am I guaranteed a placement elsewhere in the Village if my healthcare needs change?

Admission to Shepherd Lodge long-term care is determined by the Central East Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). You can list Shepherd Lodge as your top priority home, however we cannot guarantee placement since the placement process is controlled by the CCAC.

Moving to Shepherd Terrace, our Assisted Living and Retirement home, is dependent on the availability of a suite. We cannot guarantee accommodation at Shepherd Terrace but residents of Shepherd Manor and Shepherd Gardens are placed higher on our waiting list than potential residents from the community at large.
